I made the switch to a French Press

I’ve been through a few coffee makers over the years. Coffee actually wasn’t even my drink of choice until my mid to late twenties but of course now I LOVE IT. I’ve had a 4 cup Cuisinart (which is adorable and tiny), a Keurig, a Ninja Coffee Bar (I loved my Ninja and all it could do but ultimately too much plastic and too big for me), and now the French Press. I didn’t realize just how versatile the French press can be. Here are a few of the benefits I’ve found:

When looking for a French press, I had a few requirements.

  • It had to be stainless because I’m prone to drop things and have two little ones that also tend to get their hands on things.
  • No plastic. We are slowly trying to phase as much plastic as possible out of the house. I especially don’t like to have hot liquid coming in contact with plastic.
  • And lastly it should be beautiful and bring me joy.

Well, after searching and searching I finally found one that met all three requirements. I’ve had it for almost a year now and still love it just as much. It bring me so much joy every time I use it.

I also got this kettle to use when boiling my water. You don’t need it because of course you can just boil water in your sauce pot but I just love the whistle of a kettle. I like this one from OXO because it doesn’t have any plastic that comes in contact with the hot water and it has a lid that lifts off so I can make sure it is nice and clean on the inside. My mom gave me her old kettle which I love but I can’t see inside that booger and it freaks me out.

If you need a good recipe for cold brew this is the one I followed. I placed it in a half gallon sized mason jar and let it sit in the fridge overnight. Then just pour it in the French press, strain it and poor back into the container you plan on storing it in – for me it was the half gallon sized mason jar (make sure to wash it first). Hooray cold brew for the week! Word of caution – you may actually want to label your jar because my husband poured a glass thinking it was iced tea and was severely grossed out – so much so that he dumped the whole cup of MY precious cold brew down the sink. I will be labeling my cold brew from now on. Lesson learned.
